Stephen Shipps plays violin.
An investigation in 2018 yielded allegations of 40 years of misconduct by Stephen Shipps at University of Michigan and UNC School of the Arts. Shortly thereafter, he resigned. Shipps pled guilty in 2021 to sex trafficking a minor student. As of 2022, over 50 former students of UNCSA joined a lawsuit alleging abuse as far back as the 1960s. Shipps is among the defendants. The lawsuit claims that UNCSA provided recommendations for Shipps to transfer to University of Michigan in 1989.
